Rye to Cambridge

RYE - Drove through from Farnborough to arrive early so we could walk around this quaint town. Looking at the medieval and Georgian houses lining the winding cobbled streets is a treat. I love this little town with all it's old world charm. We wandered - sat having a cider while admiring the views - wandered some more, ate, strolled and then ate a late evening meal before taking a last stroll along Mermaid street back to our Lodge ..
Climbed to the top for spectacular views over the town and estuary beyond.

Rye is one of the most complete medieval towns remaining in England today. A renowned centre for antiques and art galleries. . . saw a few must haves which I did not buy . . .

Sat and read books published years before we were born, sipping great ice coffee's made using Cam's strict instructions. Lots of icecream, no ice.
Rye has retained many small family owned businesses with unique gifts and fashions. Bri we saw these furry little critters and I wanted to get you a couple of look-a-like babies . . .but, Cam said No!!! Saw some great shirts beautifully tailored! And hats!!!

Rye has an exceptional choice of good cafes and restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world. Finding a oak-beamed cafes or ancient inn, is not difficult. Sitting beside a roaring fire enjoying a meal is gorgeous. We tried the local Romney Marsh lamb, and tiger prawns freshly caught by the fleet of little fishing boats which are moored on the river. (were small. They have not seen our tiger prawns.)

Pity we only have one night. Stayed at the Rye Lodge in a beautiful old worldly room . . beautiful and comfortable. Loved it! Good thing back is feeling better as there were lots of stairs.

Had a scrumptious breakfast, last meander through the streets and then reluctantly started our drive towards Cambridge.

Arrive in this University city to pick up Arron who arrived from London by train. He was exhausted after long trip from Oz, so we went out for an evening meal at the local pub and then retired early to bed.

Breakfast and then a taxi to city center where we instantly took a Punt along the river to look at all the university houses, halls and churches. Being early we almost had the river to ourselves with the odd young Swan drifting past . . .  they are a gorgeous silver grey when Young.

Then we ventured onto the hop-on-hop-off bus. Stopped in at numerous museums and art galleries. Incredible collections of just about anything you could imagine. . . . Loved looking. Sad to leave . . .

Thought Arron looked at bit like the celebrated Mr Belzone !?

Late afternoon we drove through to Nottingham to spend the night and tomorrow, so Arron can go to WarHammer, before moving on into the Peak district.
